Did you achieve what you needed to last week?

If the answer is yes then great, you can read the rest of this post feeling smug knowing you are doing things right. If not then don’t worry in the slightest, now is the time for Monday Motivation…

The last week has gone, its in the past and that cant be changed no matter how much you worry or think about it. So put it behind you and concentrate on what you can do to make the most of the week ahead. This applies if you are self-employed, unemployed, a corporate mega-star, a student absolutely anyone!

So here goes, here are 3 tips to kick-start your week

1. Get your goals ready and written down for the week ahead

If you have a goal (and believe me, you do not get anywhere without them!) first thing to do is to write it down. Put it on a piece of paper, stick it in your purse or wallet, stick it on the fridge, display it on the mirror in your bathroom so its the first thing you see in the morning. it doesn’t matter where, just have it written down.

A seemingly boring but very enlightening study was done by clever the people at Harvard it stated that…

“The 13% of the class who had goals, but did not write them down was earning twice the amount of the 84% who had no goals. The 3% who had written goals were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other 97% of the class combined!”

If that doesn’t make you think I don’t know what will!

Why does writing it down work? Maybe its the psychological trigger that seeing it in the flesh will make it more real, after all a goal not written down is just a dream. When you see it written down its there, its physical, you can see it, you can touch it, you can show it to others.

2. Break your goals down

Just think of the very famous saying attributed to the Chinese philosopher Laozi…

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”

The big things, can always be broken down to small manageable chunks or steps, just break it down don’t get over awed by a big task.

And don’t forget Tip #1, write them down! Start with the big goal and then write the chunks below it, like a bullet pointed list, or a mind map whatever works for you.

So you have your goals, you have them written down, you have broken them down to manageable do-able chunks, what next?

3. Just Do it

You can write all the lists, you can do pretty pictures, you can think endlessly, refining, planning and dreaming but at the end of the day if you don’t actually do what you say you are going to do then you wont actually do it.

Now, we all know people who are dreamers, those kind of people who spend there time thinking of stuff they want to do, bore their friends about what they are going to do and go on an on.

What happens to them?

You see them six months down the line and you ask them what they are doing, chances are they are still saying what they are going to do and actually have achieved nothing. They will do this time and time again, and your respect for them goes further and further south!

Now on the flip side, if you were to see that person and they had achieved what they said, would you respect them more? Would you be more impressed with the fact they had done what they said instead of just coming up with ideas?

Always, always do what you say. Be a person of your word. Do what your goal list says, remember you wrote it down to make it real. Even if you don’t complete all the goals do the absolute best you can and go a bit further!

If you do what you say then you will feel good about yourself, others will see you as being a person that stands by their word, you will achieve things.

So Monday Motivation summary…

1. Get your goals ready and written down for the week ahead

2. Break your goals down

3. Just Do it

See how you get on by the end of the week, see how many goals you have ticked off. When you have a good amount ticked off treat yourself, feel that you have earned that glass of wine.

Before you know it, it will be Monday again and time for Monday Motivation and your next list of weekly goals!
